State of Nintendo in 2021 (rumors and predictions)

I am here with another year of reflection and prediction. I have done this for 2020, 2019 and 2018 as well: You can see those predictions here:
2020 mid-year: https://www.reddit.com/nintendo/comments/i3i7jm/state_of_nintendo_in_2020_7_month_retrospective/

Keep in mind that this is meant to drive discussion, don’t be a hater. Predicting the future of company plans from a fan perspective is not a precise science and some may be correct and many may be wrong. State what you think will happen in the coming year and why to add to the discussion.

2020 Retrospective

What a year, this is definitely one that will go down in history if only for how the world was shut down economically. Not going into what should have been done, so with the global pandemic hitting many industries, programmers had work from home orders which in turn caused numerous delays to titles that were being prepared for release. Regardless we still saw a steady stream of high-quality titles and the completion of DLC for titles of previous years.
DLC releases
Fire Emblem: Cindered Shadows (February) final DLC with the season pass included new characters and a bonus story playable at any time focused on the catacombs below the school
Super Mario Maker 2: The final update included new snow mechanics and a world maker where you could create a full Mario game (April)
Luigi’s Mansion 3: saw the release of two multiplayer packs (April)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The final expansion “Fantastic 4: Shadow of Doom” (March)
Pokémon Sword/Shield: Two expansion packs in one pass “The Isle of Armor” (July) and “The Crown Tundra” (October) for the first time in a Pokémon game, bringing back many favorite Pokémon
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: finished the first character pass with Byleth (January) and had previously announced a second waiver of character pass with 6 characters. Currently we have seen 3 – Min Min (June), Steve from Minecraft (October), and Sephiroth (December) and 3 more to go.
Major Releases
Super Mario time
Celebrating his 35th anniversary, Nintendo came out with a slew of products starring our favorite Italian Plumber. First was Paper Mario: The Origami King (July) which advanced past the previous two entries but was not quite back to its RPG routes like fans want. Next was Super Mario 3D All-stars (September) which included ports of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. Adjusting control schemes to account for the lack of analog triggers and pointing controls, the ports were solid but not the best way to play the games. Also missing was Super Mario Galaxy 2 from the package and any extras like documentaries making the games. An MMO-platformer Super Mario 35 (October) was also released free to NSO subscribers where you compete to complete levels in the original Super Mario Bros. Lastly was a Game & Watch version of the original Super Mario Bros.
Pokémon Battle
As stated before, we got the first DLC ever for a Pokémon game and it came in two packages “The Ilse of Armor” and “The Crown Tundra” which added extra Pokémon (both new and old) and new areas to the game. Some criticism on the way the DLC was handled as if you bought the expansion for the wrong version, it would not work despite being the same content. Pokémon Home (February) final arrived on the Switch. The spin off Mystery Dungeon series came in the form of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX (March) which was an updated port of the old Mystery Dungeon games. A free puzzle game Pokémon Café (June) to little fanfare. Also promises of a new Pokémon Snap which was delayed into 2021.
Other notable releases
· Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore (January): port of the Wii U game with a few added extras and English voice acting.
· Animal Crossing: New Horizons (March): hit at the start of the pandemic, added features and a promise of evergreen additions made this game Switch’s best-selling game that has not been a pack-in (ie only beat by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe). This game allowed gamers to escape reality and build their own island.
· Streets of Rage 4 (April): Return of the 2D brawler
· Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (May): a remake of one of Wii’s top RPGs with newer graphics, and a cleaner layout, it also included a bonus mission that connects the ending to the sequel.
· Bioshock Collection (May): A collection of all three critically acclaimed Bioshock games for the first time on an Nintendo console.
· Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (June): A collection of various minigames like Connect Four, various card games, Mahjong and more. Barebone options and quick online play for random or with friends.
· Jump Rope Challenge (June): A free exercise type game that makes use of the joycon to mimic jumping rope
· Burnout Paradise Remastered (June): An open world arcade racer that was critically acclaimed at its original release and updated for modern consoles. Also shows EA putting in more dedication to the Switch console.
· Kirby Fighters 2 (September): A fighting game starring Kirby and his power ups and nobody else.
· Hades (September): Rogue like game that tells the story as you die. Many different gameplay styles depending on which weapons you use.
· Ori and the Will of the Wisps (September): Metroidvania that is visually stunning and developed originally only for Xbox.
· Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit (October): Not wanting to give up on the AR experience, Nintendo released toy RC cars that you control with the Switch and a free software download.
· Pikmin 3 Deluxe (October): not done porting all their Wii U games to Switch, this includes all the added DLC at no extra charge
· No More Heroes/No More Heroes 2 (October): Ports of the Wii games with better graphics and framerate and alternate control style to prepare for the upcoming sequel.
· Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (November): Based on the past events of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this musou game changes up its formula but still plays like a musou game.
· Doom Eternal (December): competent port of the PS4/XB1 first person shooter by Bethesda.
· Among Us (December): Shadow dropped indie title that has taken mobile and Twitch by storm.
While not the best year, it was far from empty. Still lacking some key releases such as the sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3 and Super Mario Odyssey 2. There are many Nintendo teams that we have yet to see titles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic a lot of development has been postponed due to work at home directives set by government.

Current Release List for 2021

· Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game (Jan 14)
· Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy (Jan 26)
· Cyber Shadow (Jan 26)

First Party Software

Nintendo Entertainment Planning and Development Tokyo
Kenta Motokura
In charge of the team that was previously under Yoshiaki Koizumi (whom was promoted to Deputy General Manager of the Tokyo office). This team was previously the lead development group of Super Mario Odyssey and developed Super Mario 3D All-stars for September 2020. Due to ports being easier to produce. Now that has wrapped up and they have created an update to allow for inverted camera controls, chances are they have been placed back on developing a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey which will likely be seen in 2022.
Koichi Hayashida
The other team that helped with Super Mario Odyssey also did the port of Captain Toad: Treasure Trackers. They have been busy working on a port of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury for Switch due February 2021. They have been focused on implementing numerous changes to that title including: full 3D movement, online gameplay, and amiibo support with Cat Mario and Cat Peach. With all the extras being added, this game probably got pushed out of 2020 and into 2021 due to the pandemic changing the development lifestyle. Also, there is a highly likelihood was that they were working with Motokura’s group originally on Odyssey 2 but plans changed to get out more games for Mario’s 35th Anniversary. I expect them to fold back into Motokura’s group on Odyssey 2 when their port is completed.
Nintendo Entertainment Planning and Development Kyoto
Eiji Aonuma
Known as the “Zelda team”, there are two core teams. I believe both are working under Hidemaro Fujibayashi and Hiromasa Shikata to help develop the sequel to Breath of the Wild. Nintendo knows that Zelda sells consoles and what they have shown at e3 (2019) while stating the title is “in full development”. Nintendo know the popularity of the Breath of the Wild game and wants grow on that title. They have done so with the musou game Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity in which this team has assisted Tecmo Koei with development and the overall story. In September 2020 during an online presentation for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Aonuma stated that gamers will have to “wait a bit longer before we can provide more updates” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifm8tpcO4vw). With the 35th Anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series coming in 2021, I do expect this title to be a highlight for the holiday season as long as the game is not pushed back due to unforeseen circumstances in development.
Hideki Konno
This team is the team behind the Mario Kart series. Their latest endeavor was with Augmented Reality (AR) and developing Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit which was released this past October. Not having a full game released since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 2017, they have been developing something over the past 3 and a half years. The problem though is MK8D still sells incredibly well and if they develop Mario Kart 9 that will cannibalize any additional sales of their previous title. While chances are they could have altered their development to change it from Mario Kart 9 to another kart racer such as Donkey Kong Racing, I think gamers will probably see something from them when Nintendo showcases a newer model Switch (either the rumored PRO or an actual Switch 2) so I would not expect a full game release until 2022 at the earliest.
Hiroyuki Kimura
Super Mario Maker 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe were developed under Kimura with the help of Takashi Tezuka. In April 2020, Nintendo released the final major update for Super Mario Maker 2 which included a World creator, where you can make your own full fledged Mario game. They also released New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe in January which is an updated port of the Wii U game. There have been rumors of a new Wario platformer being developed which this team has likely been developing. Chances are likely that we will hear about their new title this year.
Kosuke Yubuki
Previously worked on ARMS in 2017 and its DLC. This producer also worked with Konno so it is likely this team was folded back into the Mario Kart team to prepare something for this year or next. It is possible they are working on an ARMS follow up, but with the success of Smash and one of its main characters Min Min being the first of the second waive of Smash DLC, it is unlikely. Most likely working on something brand new which we may see in 2021 or the following year.
Hisashi Nogami
This is the young producer in charge of both Animal Crossing and Splatoon series. He worked with another young producer Aya Kyogoku on Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. With the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons taking an evergreen approach with constant DLC content, especially when it comes to special occasions. A more seamless online experience and a lot more to do, I am sure this group is still working on Animal Crossing. Its next game will be a while away while they focus on Animal Crossing in the current future. Do not expect anything new from this team for a while.

2nd Party Studios

Camelot Software Planning
Their last title was Mario Tennis Aces (2018) and its respective DLC. Being a smaller studio, it takes some time for development. The team was hit harder due to the pandemic. Now, with all the DLC on Mario Tennis Aces completed early 2019, they have likely been busy in full development on Mario Golf. Most likely will see Mario Golf sometime in 2021. It is likely they were probably aiming for a 2020 title buy delayed the development into 2021 – so expect a release this year.
Game Freak
They just released the 2 DLC packages for Pokémon Sword and Shield for the Nintendo Switch this year to mixed review. They typically have something Pokémon related out each year and they also developed their own title Little Town Hero last year meaning they have been hard developing some titles. Current rumors suggest either a Let’s Go remake of Gold/Silver or a full remake of Diamond/Pearl since Ruby/Sapphire were the last full remakes. Personally, I think we will either see Sword/Shield 2 or a whole new Pokémon game due out this year since they have been incredibly busy, are a larger studio that works on many titles at once, and have not had a big release in 2020.
Grezzo
This team just release the port of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening in 2019. Mostly known for their 3DS ports of Zelda titles and TriForce Heroes, chances are they are still working on the Zelda franchise. With 2021 being Zelda’s 35th Anniversary, there have been many rumors of a collection or ports of some of the older Zelda games to be released in 2021. Since 2018, there has also been rumor of a Zelda: Skyward Sword port (which was shot down by Aonuma) (https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-11-26-nintendo-fans-excited-by-zelda-skyward-sword-nintendo-switch-port-reports)
Good Feel
They released Yoshi’s Crafted World in 2019 and has likely they have started on the next Yoshi game as it tends to sell well and it is what they know. It is also possible that Nintendo has given them another 2D IP to work with such as Wario Land, however; I think that series might be in development by the 2D Mario team under Kimura. It is highly likely that we will see something from them in 2021 and depending on how the pandemic hit their development cycle it may have either a 2021 or 2022 release.
HAL Laboratory
Developer of all things Kirby, we have seen some smaller Kirby titles lately. Their last games were Kirby Fighters 2 and Part-time UFO both digital only eShop games. They have teased something for early this year but on the smaller scale (https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/12/kirby_developer_hal_laboratory_teases_new_projects_for_20211) . I think they may also have a full-fledged Kirby game due this year as our last one was early 2018.
Intelligent Systems
This team was hard at work as it finished the DLC on Fire Emblem: 3 Houses and released Paper Mario: The Origami King in July of 2020. They also continue to work on Fire Emblem Heroes on mobile as that is Nintendo’s highest grossing mobile project. Growing the studio in 2019 to be able to handle numerous projects at a time, they likely have a few titles in development. The biggest rumor is that Nintendo is readying another Fire Emblem game but a remake of an older title. Current rumors are remakes of Geneology (next one in line for a remake) or Binding Blade (the game that introduced Roy). If it is a remake, then we will likely see the release in 2021. If it is not a remake, then creating the scenario will take some time so we will likely see the game this year with a release for 2022. Chances are they are likely working on another title as well but that probably won’t be seen until 2022.
Next Level Games
Last responsible for Luigi’s Mansion 3 and its DLC that was released in 2020. They have also worked on Metroid and Punch-out! With actual 3D Mario titles being handled internally by Nintendo’s Tokyo studio, they are likely working on something new. Possibly a sports title, new Punch Out, or even a 2D Metroid (though I doubt this despite rumors of development). We may see what they have developed this year, but I would expect a 2022 release to be more realistic for what they are working on.
NDCube
Responsible for Super Mario Party in 2018 and they did Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics for 2020, which was a barebones release in the form of options. Considering the lack of DLC for Super Mario Party, chances are they are working on a sequel to the game that sold well. The single problem if they are working on Super Mario Party 2 is that the original is still selling incredibly well even 2 years after release with over 12 million units. Even if the game is ready this year, I think Nintendo will hold out on Super Mario Party 2 until 2022.
Monolith Soft
Responsible for help with Breath of the Wild and the Xenoblade franchise. We did not hear much from them in 2019 or 2020 with their only release being a remake of the original Xenoblade Chronicles in May. In 2017 they advertised jobs for a new fantasy action-RPG which likely was transferred to their help with the Zelda franchise. I believe we will see the sequel to Breath of the Wild this year and first glimpse of a new Xenoblade game for 2022.
Retro Studios
This year also marks the 35th Anniversary for the Metroid series. Unfortunately, the series is not as high priority as many other Nintendo franchises. With the sequel of Breath of the Wild likely coming out this year, it will be the focus for Nintendo in 2021; we probably will not see any development from Metroid Prime 4 until 2022. Nintendo knows that they need to make Metroid Prime a quality title so they will give Retro Studios as much time as they need for the title. As for the long-rumored port of the Metroid Prime Trilogy, I still have hopes that we will see some information on it this year, potentially in August to support the anniversary and prepare for Metroid Prime 4 the following year.

3rd Party collaborations

Bandai Namco
Collaborating with Nintendo on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and its DLC, there are still 3 character-packages to go before they are finished with that game. Additionally, they are the development team behind New Pokémon Snap, which was originally due 2020 but delayed into an unknown time 2021 – so expect that title. The Tales team is busy on Tales of Arise which is not bound for Switch, so outside the DLC and Pokémon game do not expect much.
Bethesda
The parent company Zenimax was recently purchased by Microsoft. The sale included Bethesda and all its partnering companies. The last release was Doom Eternal released in December 2020 and was a digital only release. The move from physical to digital only was due to the fact it came 9 months after the main PS4/XB1 release. With no Switch games scheduled on the horizon and its recent acquisition and focus on next generation, I think we have seen the last Switch game from Bethesda
Capcom
They have ported many of their older titles (REmake, RE0, RE4, RE5, RE6, Rev1, Rev2 DMC 1,2,3) to Switch and have brand new games: Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories due in 2021. With the Capcom leak, there is a game due Q4 of 2021 called Biohazard Outrage which is rumored to be Resident Evil Revelations 3 and featuring Rebecca Chambers. There was also a leak of a new Dragon’s Dogma and Ace Attorney 7 which are rumored to come to Switch.
Electronic Arts
They have pledged 14 games from April 2020 to March 2021 fiscal year. EA has kept the games closely guarded and it is unsure if the global pandemic has postponed any of the planned games. Still waiting on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and some Plants vs Zombie games.
Koei Tecmo
Since Nintendo has invested heavily in this studio, they have worked increasing hard for Nintendo hardware. They finished the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 DLC, assisted with Breath of the Wild in 2017, assisted with Fire Emblem: 3 Houses and released Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity in 2020. They co-own the Fatal Frame franchise with Nintendo and it has a game that is rumored to be in development. There is also a possibility of a port of the Wii U game to come to Switch. It is likely they are helping with the sequel to Breath of the Wild as well. Lastly there has been a year long rumor on the return of Ninja Gaiden and it seems that Switch would be likely candidate for that game considering how well their games are selling on Switch
Platinum Games
They are working on Bayonetta 3 and have a good relationship with Nintendo. Being in development the over the past 3 years, I do expect to at least hear something about the title in 2021 if not a release but I have been wrong before.
Ubisoft
I went out on a limb last year and said Assassin Creed ports and they are working with Nintendo on a new Star Fox game. We have seen ports for Assassins Creed 3, Liberty, 4: Black Flag and Rebel. New Assassins Creed games are a bit too much for Ubisoft, but I still think we will see another Nintendo collaboration and I am positive it will be a new Star Fox game. Ubisoft will also continue to support Nintendo with Just Dance and look forward to a lot of their smaller titles to also come to the Switch.
Sega
Their biggest releases were games along the Sega Ages line (which they recently discontinued https://nintendoeverything.com/sega-confirms-the-end-of-sega-ages-but-teases-more-plans-for-switch-and-past-titles/), Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, and Football Manager 2021. They also released Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics late 2019. They are likely working on a new Sonic game for Switch and while the Sega Ages line is gone, they are still open to port older titles on the system.
Square Enix
Bravely Default 2 has a release date of February 2021 after being pushed out of 2020. They have also released in 2020 a few collections of older games, Trials of Mana, and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory which is a music game spin off for the Kingdom Hearts series. Rumored to have The World Ends with You 2 in development for Switch. I would also expect some more collections to come out (or at least ports) and a rumored new entry in the SaGa or Mana series.
Take Two Games
Released 3 collections for Switch in May of 2020 with their 2K Games development studio. I think they likely will have some more games in development, especially with the way EA has provided lackluster support in the sports games field. There has also been a long rumor of Rockstar developing Grand Theft Auto V for Switch but that seems to be more of a dream than an actual rumor as Rockstar is working on development of GTAV for PS5 and XSX. Ports and complication packages being quick and easy turnover, I am certain they will delve into their back catalogue and find a release for the Switch in 2021.

Minecraft Bi-Weekly Build Challenge #113: Snow Golem Kingdom

LAST WEEK'S THEME: SPACESHIP

Great challenge by all, really tough making the decisions this week

Gold

cozyblocks
While this build told a story (one that some people may be half familiar with), the thing that impressed me was the variety in builds in order to tell it. There were three different builds in this single build, all were different, and each one impressed me. Usually, we say that bigger isn't always better, since we expect the quality to be there for everything we are looking at. However, here, it seemed the same amount of effort and detail went into each.
Loved it!

Silver

Groundbreaking-Bet15
Another great build with variety!
Loved the different designs of the ships. I also really loved how they all followed the same theme (unless they were part of the other side). Without even looking too carefully, I was able to know which ship belonged to which faction and it should be like that! I also really liked the fact that you had a 'boss' ship for each of the factions.
Great job!

Bronze

RussianDemocracy
Well, now let's look at a small scale build. It may not be grand or have too many different aspects. However it was very well built and seriously impressed me when I saw it. One of my favourite parts was how you incorporated grindstones into the build. I never would have thought to use them for rotors, but wow, they worked perfectly. Great idea, and thanks for giving me that idea too!
Good job!
Honourable mentions
I could barely pick a top 3, and I would have too many on this list, so everyone gets an honourable mention this week!

GUIDE: How to play Minecraft on an Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet for Kids

I posted this on kindlefire because I couldn't find any good information on the internet for this. Hopefully it helps someone.
I'd like to play Minecraft with my kids...
So for Christmas I bought the PC "Bedrock" version from the Microsoft store for myself, then purchased the Amazon "Minecraft" app through Amazon.com.
And dear God, did it take me a full day to get it working. I thought, since it was so much work for me, I'd put together a quick guide to help other people out.

After you purchase Minecraft from Amazon...

Open your Amazon Fire tablet:
From your child profile, click the gear from the top menu to Go to Settings > Storage > Internal Storage > Apps & Games > Minecraft
Select Permissions, then Allow both "Contacts" and "Storage".
Then, "Force Stop" the app from the same settings menu, to reset the permissions.

You'll need an existing Microsoft Live Parent Account which you can setup here: signup.live.com .
Then you've got to setup a Microsoft Live Family Account for your child. This requires you to attach an account to an email address (I created new '@'outlook.com addresses for my 3 kids)
https://account.microsoft.com/family/

Make sure you save your passwords for your kids because you'll need to type them into the tablets.

Once you add the child MS Live account, you can login to the Minecraft App on the tablet and "sign in" using that email ID and password.

Once you sign in, you'll setup their picture and gamer tag, which you'll use to add each other as friends.

Then, you need to login to your Xbox live settings.
Log in to https://account.xbox.com/settings with the parent Microsoft account
Click on the child account's profile.
Click on "Xbox One/Windows 10 Online…" & choose "allow" for "Join multiplayer games" AND "You can create and join clubs"
To enable chat for people not on the person's friends list, they will need to click on privacy and enable "others can communicate..."
(Note, that I added more permissions than these two listed here, I believe these are the main ones you'll need)
Submit the changes.

On your Fire Tablet, you'll need to Go into the settings and "Force Stop" the app to restart it with your new permissions. (which is at Settings > Storage > Internal Storage > Apps & Games > Minecraft)

In the Minecraft App on your tablet, click Play, then Friends and add your family members by their gamer tags, and you can play together!
EDIT: Added that settings need to be accessed from the child profile. Wow! Thanks for the gold!

Minecraft Bi-Weekly Build Challenge #111: Vikings

LAST WEEK'S THEME: THE COLOURS OF AUTUMN

Gold

YiMaren
There are certain types of builds that benefit from a larger size, and this is a great example. The massive height of the build helps give off the sense of importance with this building, and makes your mind whirl with the possibilities of what it was all for. The splotches of black windows throughout the build help give it detail, to avoid becoming a blur of gray walls, and the prismarine roofs gives it the depth it needs to become a three dimensional work of art. This is all without mentioning the wonderfully made autumn trees everywhere, and the detailing that's gone into them.
Great build!

Silver

Zachatar7
This build invokes a fantastic feeling of fall when I look at it, and I can almost picture myself at a county fair in October. This build doesn't have any one part that makes it a winner, instead it's the combination of all the parts. The corn maze is beautifully done, the detail at the barn and greenhouse is great, the list goes on and on. My only complaint could be that the detail on any one part of the build isn't outstanding, but it hardly affects it due to the lively world it has instead.
Nice job!

Bronze

Chello96
It's been awhile since I reminded people of this rule, but please try and separate shader images and normal images into seperate albums. This has been an issue in the past, but it was a year or two ago so people may have forgotten that rule.
Near a small lake, surrounded by cliffs and colorful trees stands a small but sturdy cottage of a fisher. Rocks made out of buttons, scattered on the ground create an atmosphere and sense of a passed time in this area. However, as we zoom out from this little house and lake, we find ourselves surrounded by hilly terrain, filled with trees of various color and material that all create a magical awe and emphasize the season of autumn/fall. Amazing and very atmospheric build, and while the trees and terrain are super unique and phenomenal, they do get a bit repetitive after a while, hence why we chose a third place for this build. A small cave here or there, a waterfall, fallen trees and some wild animals even, would inject some more life and randomness into the build, making it (we feel like) even greater than it already is.
Good job!

Next-gen console buying guide - a detailed look at the next generation consoles

Hey /IndianGaming !
A new generation of gaming is nearly upon us, and for those us who aren't PC gamers, that means weighty decisions about which machine to pick as our primary gaming rig for the next six or seven years. Now that we know pretty much everything about the Xbox and PlayStation, let's compare the two to try and discern which console would offer you the best gaming experience and value. I'll do the Xbox first because the difference between the two consoles is larger than with PlayStation.

PS5 vs Xbox - Hardware

Xbox
The Xbox brand has come a long way in the past seven years. The release of the Xbox One was disastrous, plagued by always online, intrusive DRM, high pricing because of Kinect, and a bunch of other silly decisions from clueless execs who were completely out of touch which what gamers wanted. But ever since MS fired Don Mattrick and replaced him with Phil Spencer as the head of the Xbox division, Phil has slowly turned things around, coming up with many new innovations in an effort to get the xbox back up to competing with the big boys.
Their hardware team too went from creating a prohibitively priced but technically weak console, to the most powerful console of this generation. For next gen, they've gone with an even more ambitious vision, creating two consoles at different price points targeting different output resolutions, but hoping to achieve the same level of performance. That's quite the goal! Let's check out the specs.
Component Xbox Series X Xbox Series S
CPU 8 Core AMD Zen 2 @3.8Ghz/3.6GhzSMT 8 Core AMD Zen 2 @3.6Ghz/3.4SMT

Whoo! These are quite beefy machines. The current generation of consoles were actually quite dated even for their time. Not so this time around, these consoles are high end gaming rigs, with the Series X even beating most PC's that took the Steam hardware survey.
Before we go any further though, let's untangle this alphabet soup of tech specs and try and translate it into something readable(tech geeks bear with me, there's a lot of oversimplification here, I know!)
SMT - Stands for Simultaneous MultiThreading. Simultaneous multithreading allows different processes to utilize the same core, allowing for greater efficiency. Basically, a CPU core that could normally only do one thing at a time now spends less time sitting idle, as it works other things while waiting for instructions to finish processing. Sometimes this means way better performance when code is specifically optimized for it, other times it doesn't really matter because code has to wait on a previous operation to finish before starting a new one.
Teraflops - Short for Trillion Floating Point Operations per Second. A floating point operation is basically a standard arithmetic operation(multiplication, division etc) involving decimal numbers(floating points). So the 4 Teraflop Series S GPU, for instance, can do 4 trillion of these a second. Phew!
PCiE/NVMe - Short for Peripheral Component Interconnect Express, PCIe is just a connector standard that transfers data across components. These connectors have various lanes of traffic, so the more lanes a component utilizes, the faster information will flow, like on a road or highway. NVMe(Nonvolatile Memory Express) drives use more lanes than SATA drives probably used by your computer, which means way faster speeds. It's planning a road layout and choosing to use a highway instead of a normal road to make things faster.
Xbox Velocity Architecture - Fancy marketing term for a collection of technologies that aim to increase rendering and texture streaming efficiency i.e squeeze as much juice out of the hardware as possible. It incudes stuff like Sampler Feedback Streaming(tech that allows the hardware to load only the mipmaps that are necessary, reducing I/O because less data has to be sent to RAM to load a frame), improvements to DX, and of course a fast SSD(although less powerful than the one on the PS5). It also enables stuff like Quick Resume.
So what does this all mean for gaming? Well, the Xbox Series X is a way more powerful machine across the board, aimed at hitting a higher performance target. It needs higher specs because it's outputting 4K images as opposed to a target of 1440p on the Series S. Microsoft says the Series S specs have been neatly scaled so the only difference between the two consoles is resolution. Don't take them at their word though, there are bound to be other small differences , resolution will just be the biggest differentiator. So that means both consoles are equipped with technologies like Raytracing, Variable Rate Shading, Sampler Feedback Streaming, all that good next-gen stuff.
But wait...
What the F is Ray Tracing?!
Arguably the defining feature of Next-Generation graphics, Ray tracing is a radical new way to render realistic graphics on-screen. In order to understand how it works, let's think a bit about how graphics are rendered.
The real world is complicated. Very complicated. Trying to recreate that in a game requires the use of various algorithms to simulate various parts of the real world, like a physics engine to handle various forces and collisions, a shadow and reflection maps to handle shadows and reflections, a light map to handle the lighting of a scene, and of course a virtual camera viewport to simulate your eyes. There are a ton of things game developers do to try and recreate the real world as accurately as possible with the processing power available to them, and you can see them if you've ever opened up a game graphics menu where it allows you to toggle certain settings, or 'tricks' on or off, that were developed to make scenes look more realistic.
So where does ray tracing come in? Well, Raytracing is meant to replace 'fake' methods of rendering stuff like lighting and shadows by attempting to realistically simulate the way lighting and shadows actually work in the real world. If you've ever taken a high school physics class, you'll know that light travels in the form of rays - reflecting, refracting, getting absorbed etc ad infinitum. Ray tracing is the process by which computers attempt to simulate this in an effort to make scenes look more realistic than what can be achieved by artificial tricks.
For instance, check out Raytraced minecraft
Wow! Quite the quantum jump there, right? While minecraft's graphics were never technically very impressive, with raytracing everything looks so much nicer. Water actually looks like water and not blue lines, dark caves actually look dark and not just black, lava actually behaves like lava instead of looking like someone spilled some red paint on a light source, everything just looks that much more realistic.
It's achieved by each pixel, both inside and outside the scene(traditional rendering methods typically only consider pixels inside the scene for lighting and shadows) casting off a ray of light, the path of which is then traced around the scene until it hits a light source or an artificial limit. This eliminates the need for manually providing lightmaps or reflection details, because those can be simulated in real time and look even better. As you can imagine, it's very computationally intensive, which is why we haven't really see it go mainstream in gaming until now. Even with the monsters that are this-gen consoles, they probably won't be able to hit their performance targets with full RT. From what we can see so far, the Xbox Series X will likely run at 4k30 with RT, and the Series S will run at 1080p30 with RT.
Alright that's enough about Raytracing for now, back to the console comparison.
Some quick FAQs
  1. Is there any benefit to getting the Series X if I don't have a 4k TV? - Yes, but probably not a 15k difference. The Series X will still be processing higher resolution textures and might even give you better framerates in games, but the primary reason to get a Series X over the S if you don't have a 4k TV will probably just be to future-proof yourself in case you ever do decide to buy one in the future
  2. Why would I need Quick Resume? - A strange question, but one I have nevertheless seen asked a fair number of times. To clarify, you don't really 'use' quick resume as you benefit from it. Just opening a game will take you right back to the state it was in when you last closed it, so you don't need to sit through loading screens, menus, or studio logos to get in the game. It also persists across cold boots.
  3. What are the PC equivalents to the Xbox Series X specs? - The Series X GPU lies somewhere between the RTX 2080 Super and the RTX 2080 ti as far as raw performance is concerned. As for the CPU, the closest PC equivalent would probably be the AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, or a less than an Intel i7 9700k.
PS5
Arguably the more highly anticipated console, the PS5 succeeds the PS4, which absolutely crushed the Xbox One this generation in terms of sales and games. Fueled by phenomenal exclusives like God of War, Spiderman, Bloodborne, TLOU2 etc, the PS4 juggernaut's got quite a bit of momentum going into this generation. Sadly as we all know, it hit a bit of a legal hiccup coming to India so it'll be delayed. We also don't know as much about it as we do the Xbox because Sony hasn't actually sent out any units to Influencers/Reviewers yet, so all we have to go on are the specs, demos, and teardowns that Sony themselves have provided.
This generation, Sony's offering two variants of the PS5, but in contrast to Microsoft's strategy, both their consoles are equally powerful and offer basically the same gaming experience, the only difference being that one plays discs while the other doesn't. The price difference between the two consoles is also 10k as opposed to 15k with the Xbox.
Because the consoles share identical specs, I won't be comparing them with each other. Instead, let's compare them to the Xboxes. Here's the same table again, except with PS5 in the middle this time.

On paper, the Xbox Series X is the most powerful console, then the PlayStations, with the Series S coming in at a distant third. The Series X has a slightly faster CPU, a significantly faster GPU, and slightly faster RAM than the PS5. Meanwhile, the PS5 has the edge in I/O throughput, which is about twice as fast as that on the Series X when it comes to raw numbers.
What do these numbers actually mean for games? Well, we just don't know yet, because multiplats have yet to be benchmarked on the PS5. Sony seems to be playing their cards close to the vest, and haven't given their hardware to any reviewers to try. It's a safe guess to say that games will probably look slightly better on the Series X with maybe slightly better performance, but the difference is unlikely to be significant and probably won't matter to most casual gamers. Meanwhile, the difference in I/O throughput could mean that the PS5 will possibly load worlds and start up games faster than the Series X. It will probably be most noticeable in exclusive first party titles that are coded to specifically take advantage of the SSD.
Let's discuss hardware value by price. When it comes to price, the best value hardware wise is clearly the PS5 DE. For merely 5k more than the Series S you're getting 3-4x the processing power. If you have a 4k TV at home, it's probably not worth considering the Series S, just the PS5 and the Series X. Maybe when the Series S is more reasonably priced in India according to the $1 = ₹100 rule it could be a contender, but as of now, it's my personal opinion that the Series S is just not good value in India for those who have a 4K TV at home and the budget to afford one.
But of course there's more to a system than just hardware. Now that we've drawn up some specs comparisons, let's get down to the software side.

PS5 vs Xbox- Software

For most gamers, this will be the real meat of the comparison. The power differences between the PS5 and the Xbox Series X are probably not significant enough on their own to decide a purchase, so for most casual gamers, software is what will decide it.
Xbox
By far the biggest difference software side on the Xbox is Xbox Game Pass. Love or hate Xbox, you can't deny that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is quite simply the best value in gaming right now. Following this guide from the subreddit , you can get 3 years of it for as low as ₹7500. In case you've been living under a rock, here's what you get with Xbox Game Pass.
  1. Xbox Live Gold (Multiplayer and Games with Gold)
  2. Access to a growing and rotating library of ~350 games(as part of PC+Console. Console only - ~250 Games)
  3. Perks - This can sometimes include cool stuff like the presently included 3 months of Discord Nitro, but so far for the most part I've not found it to be of too much use unless you play a lot of free to play games like World of Tanks or Warframe.
  4. xCloud - Not really relevant in India right now, but if you go the 3 years of gamepass route it might be a nice bonus down the line. It's possible to access xCloud right now with a VPN, but it's not a great experience.
  5. EA Play - Game Pass will also soon include access to EA Play, the basic tier of their subscription service, including very popular games like FIFA, Battlefield, Sims, etc. It also includes trials of the latest EA games.
  6. A 20% Discount on buying the games included in Game Pass, if you decide to buy them to keep.
It's also worth noting that all future Xbox Games Studios games will land on Xbox Game Pass Day 1, which is a really good value considering that Xbox now has 23 studios making games. While most of them are a ways off, it looks like a good lineup, especially if you're into RPG's.
Game Pass is pretty much the USP of the Xbox right now. For gamers on limited budgets, it's just tremendous value. For ₹700 per month(It's regionally priced too!), you get to play way more games and have much more fun with your console than you could have had without the service. For many, this could possibly be the decider.
The second big difference, of course, is in the exclusives. Here's what the upcoming Xbox exclusive lineup looks like -
  1. Halo Infinite
  2. Microsoft Flight Simulator
  3. Senua's Saga - Hellblade 2
  4. Avowed
  5. Fable
  6. Everwild
  7. Forza Motorsport
  8. Starfield
  9. The Elder Scrolls VI
It's also worth noting that all these games will still go on PC Game Pass Day 1. If you have a PC capable of running these games when they come out, then missing out on Xbox games shouldn't really be an issue or a deciding factor.
The third big difference is in backwards compatibility. The Series X and S will be compatible with every single Xbox One game, a lot of the most popular Xbox 360 games, and some of the most popular OG Xbox games. Here's the full list of 607 supported titles. It's great if you're already invested in the platform or are nostalgic for old titles like Burnout Revenge, Red Dead Redemption, Black Ops 2, Fallout New Vegas, etc. Probably won't be a big thing for most people, but for those it will help, it can make a purchase.
there's also a bunch of conveniences like quick resume and play anywhere. Quick Resume works like a save state where the console just loads back to where you last were when you quit the game instead of starting the game afresh. It works with multiple games at a time and persists even if you pull the plug on the Xbox. Play Anywhere works with some titles where your saves carry over from Xbox to PC. Nice to have, but not anything major.
Finally, an important note - unlike the PS5, even Free to Play games need a subscription to play online. So yeah, you can't play stuff like Fortnite or Warzone without a live gold or game pass ultimate subscription. If you spend a lot of time playing F2P games and can't afford game pass, this is a significant downside that might even be a dealbreaker, depending on how much time you spend playing F2P and how broke you are.
Quick FAQ's
Will future Bethesda Games be Xbox exclusive? - We still don't have definitive confirmation on whether future Bethesda titles will be exclusive, but it's highly likely that they will be, considering that Minecraft excluded, no other Microsoft first party studio currently develops games for other platforms. Phil Spencer also recently went on record to say that they're not worried about losing out on PS sales. Keep in mind that games like DOOM, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, will sell many Xboxes if they go exclusive. So while we can't claim anything definitively either way, don't buy a PS5 expecting to play these games for sure.
What's the best deal on Game Pass? - Currently it's the 3 year gold conversion deal. It probably won't last forever, so don't pass up the opportunity. Follow the guide linked above.
Are PC and Console Game Pass the same? - No. They are similar services but have different libraries. While all Xbox Games Studios games will release Day 1 on both platforms, major third party titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 are not likely to hit PC game pass.
PS5
Software wise, the biggest reason to buy the PS5 are for its exclusives. So far, PS4 exclusives blow Microsoft's out of the water. God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, time and again Sony has proven that they have some of the best studios out there. The PS5 will certainly have some spectacular games. Here's what the upcoming PS5 exclusive lineup looks like -
  1. Spider-Man : Miles Morales(Launch)
  2. Demon's Souls (Launch)
  3. God of War - Ragnarok
  4. Ratchet and Clank : A Rift Apart
  5. Gran Turismo 7
  6. Sackboy - A Big Adventure
  7. Godfall
  8. Final Fantasy 16 (timed)
  9. Deathloop, Ghostwire(timed)
The majority of these games will most likely only be playable on PlayStation i.e they won't be coming to PC, so that's another thing to keep in mind when deciding which system to buy. They'll all mostly be phenomenal games, Sony titles usually are, especially first party ones.
On the downside, great games can be quite expensive. As you've heard, Sony has confirmed that all PS5 first party exclusives will be 4999 going forward(no regional pricing). So if you care about playing Ratchet and Clank/God of WaGran Turismo at launch, be ready to shell out the cash. Personally I don't believe 5k for a single player game is worth it in India, but of course it depends on your personal finances.
To alleviate this somewhat we have PS Now and the PS Plus collection, Sony's answer to Game Pass. The PS Plus collection includes a lot of popular PS4 exclusives and some third party titles like Arkham Knight and Fallout 4. It's a really good deal if you're jumping into the PS ecosystem for the first time, but those who already own PS5's will probably already have played most of the games on there and will only benefit once they grow the service.
Sony also a bunch of conveniences in the UI like activites, which let you jump right into a certain part of the game. It's also rumored to have some sort of quick resume, but nothing's been confirmed in that regard yet.
As for Backwards Compatibility, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will be BC with nearly all PS4 titles, but PS1,2,and 3 games will be left to history. Regrettable, but probably not a dealbreaker for most people.
So on the Sony side, we have some killer exclusives but not as much value with highly priced games and no game pass.

Verdict

So, for the most important question, which one do you get? Well, even after 21,000 words I won't really pretend to have an answer. There are too many variables to consider. How invested you are in a particular ecosystem, your personal financial situation, the type of games you like, etc. That said, I have some broad recommendations -
  1. If you have already have a 4k TV and have/plan to buy online - The PS5 DE is the way to go. The asinine pricing of the Series S in India makes this particular situation an easy call in my opinion. Yeah games will be expensive, but if you have the budget to buy a 4k TV maybe you can afford it. If not, you could always wait and pick up the games later when they go on sale. Kind of a bummer, but you'd still be playing on better hardware and actually putting your 4k TV to good use, instead of wasting its potential on the Series S. Maybe this will change if the Series S ever comes down in price, but for now this is the easiest reco to make.
  2. If you don't own a 4k TV and are strapped for cash(maybe you lost your job during rona), get the Series S. The Series S gets a lot of flak from hardcore gamers but IMO it is still a great gaming machine. for those upgrading from the Xbox One/One S/PS4/PS4 Slim it will still be a huge upgrade. Don't get carried away by 4k Marketing. 1440p gaming still looks great, and if the Series S can keep its promises of 1440p 60fps or even 1080p w/ Raytracing, games will look gorgeous and play great. Game Pass is also phenomenal value, and you get to play way more games for cheaper than on the PS4.
  3. If neither of these statements are close to your use case, don't consider the Series S or the PS5 DE. The PS5 DE might be a tempting buy for those who own discless collections and want to save money, but that would be a mistake. You're probably going to be playing on this console for at least 5-6 years, and are going to buy many games in that time. With PS5 games priced as highly as they are, you're almost certainly going to make up the difference and more buying expensive non-regionally priced games. The PS5 might cost more, but buying physical will save you a ton of money over digital purchases.
  4. XSX vs PS5 is kind of a toss-up. XSX is compact and more powerful and is overall better value with Game Pass, but doesn't have many next-gen games to play at launch(most Xbox heavy hitters are landing much later). Meanwhile the PS5 has Demon's Souls and Miles Morales which comes with Spider Man Remastered. Personally I would go with an XSX in this situation because it's better value and will probably have more exclusives down the line(I don't mind waiting), but if you're eager to get on the next-gen hype train as soon as possible or are already invested in the PS ecosystem/you just love PS games that much, the PS5 is also a pretty good purchase. Definitely the hardest call to make.
  5. If you are much into WRPGS, go with Xbox. Microsoft has a solid lock on western RPG's this generation, with titles like Fable, Avowed, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Starfield. Given that Sony doesn't really make these sorts of games themselves and there aren't that many big WRPG devs left(CDPR and BioWare are pretty much the only ones I think?), you're better off going with Xbox if you're a fan of these sorts of games.

Closing Thoughts

Phew! This write-up turned out to be a lot longer than I had initially expected. It was quite a bit of work writing it, and I did quite a bit of research to ensure that it's as accurate as possible. I'm still human so I've probably made some mistakes still, so please feel free to correct me if you spot an error.
And of course, these are ultimately just my thoughts on the matter as someone who owns and plays on both consoles right now, as well as PC, and will probably end up getting both new consoles down the line. I've tried to keep this as unbiased as possible, but if you feel I've misrepresented something or left something out, do weigh in in the comments and help other people out.

The Java-to-Microsoft Account migration is going to be a disaster.

TL;DR: Migration will make people lose their Minecraft access, will break 3rd-party launchers, actually be less secure, and more.
This is an opinion-based post (well, maybe part rant as well) meant to be a discussion. When the time comes for people to migrate their Mojang or Legacy accounts (for Java) it is going to be a disaster. We've been using these accounts for years, and it just sucks that it's MANDATORY that we now need to migrate, unlike to Legacy-to-Mojang account Migration. So many people are going to lose access to Minecraft Java simply because they just don't know the email and password they use with their Mojang and/or Microsoft account. Maybe they will be forced to create a Microsoft account, even if they don't want to. Perhaps they have two accounts and don't know which one to use. Thousands, maybe even millions of accounts lost just because of this stupid migration. And what if I don't want to migrate? What if I FORGET to migrate!? Well, say bye-bye to your account, because Microsoft is going to lock it and prevent you from signing in ever again. That means buying another copy of the game. I feel like this is all for Microsoft's personal gain, just so they can sell more Minecraft copies and show that they gained so many new accounts. Plus, who knows? Maybe they'll start collecting our personal information with Minecraft Java now.
What about third-party launchers like MultiMC? Broken, since Mojang accounts won't exist in a few months. And how are they going to get permission from Microsoft to let people sign in with their accounts? I don't know how all that works, but it seems like people will be forced to use the default launcher now even if they don't want to.
And what happens if your account gets hacked? Sure, Microsoft boasts that there will now be 2FA for Minecraft, but even with that, accounts can still be compromised. What if you pay for subscriptions like Xbox Live Gold or Microsoft (Office) 365? You could be putting your payment methods in danger like this. And don't forget, not everyone will have 2FA on. It would be very risky for the young kids using a parent's account. Young kids can get people to give them a parent's password and Outlook email. So it won't just be Minecraft you're losing, but part of your digital identity too.
Honestly I think that the migration should be optional. I bet many people would migrate, heck, even I would migrate, but not everyone does. Plus, I bet only a lot of people would migrate for the free cape. Not everyone wanted to switch to Mojang accounts when they were introduced. Making the migration mandatory is a bad, bad idea. Sure, tell people to migrate for the cape, but to make it mandatory is just absurd.

Copyright And Trademark makes me think i am in a cage. I fucking hate myself and this world. (long text)

I first would like to sincerly apologize if i sound rude at any point of this post.

For context. I am a person born with ADHD, Autism, I like drawing things, writing things, using imaginations to my fullest, or rather, i used to like drawing things and making art and things. My skill level is.... I would say a rookie? Maybe below rookie. (That is debatable) And so back then, before i really knew what copyright and trademark was really all about, i went absolute ham on just getting ideas after ideas out of my head for things, Fan Fiction, Tracing a drawing and so on.

But now that i have grown, i have become more and more self-aware and self-conscious. (And thus past things that i have done has hit a mental toll on me). And when it comes to copyrighted materials. It has all went downhill. For example. About a year ago, i was really back into Pokemon. I bought pretty much all games (from gen 1 to the latest switch game). And i was so fascinated by the whole "You, the person, YOU are the main-character of the game". But due to the limited narrative and such, i wanted to explore and put out my own ideas. And so i started writing my own fanfic, started to get into drawing art (Which i was really terrible at prior to this, but as time went on, i started getting better at it. I even made my very own comic). But, the thoughts eventually hit me, "I don't own Pokemon. I am not Nintendo or Game Freak. And therefor. I should probably stop and never speak about my own ideas and imaginations about this particular IP to anyone or to myself" And i even googled up to see whether or not i am allowed to do these kind of things. But there were too many different answers, so i assumed the worst.

(And note that, i made fanfic and drawing as a mean of exploring the narrative of the said IP in more depth, so i didn't want to make anything commercial anyway in good faith)

And so it felt like i had already gotten a Cease and Desist from Nintendo but mentally even though i haven't even published or even posted anything on the internet. And so i stopped making anything that was related to Pokemon. But it soon hit me later. "But, if i am not allowed to make anything related to Pokemon, though i am not making a single penny of it, should i even be allowed to like Pokemon at all? Because if i like the games, the show, etc, then that will likely spark ideas and my own imagination about it and i probably want to share that idea to friends or family. But since i am not allowed to do that, i should not like Pokemon at all". And due to that, i stopped liking Pokemon completely because what i interpret is that we consumers who give in and observe to others expressive idea are not allowed to express our own interpretations and ideas of the others idea.
(My general basic knowledge of copyright and trademark is that; You can't just upload a DVD movie to Youtube. And i often am on the moral side and i agree with that rule. Or that, you can't just make a drawing of a mouse character with 2 round ears and cartoony eyes and red shorts and call it mickey mouse and claim you are the creator of the character and then attempt to sell it. Otherwise there would be a billion versions of mickey mouse on the internet already. I can sorta understand that rule, but.....)
But this is just the beginning, it is just the tip of the iceberg. It goes downhill from here.

And so i moved on from Pokemon to Minecraft. Everybody loves Minecraft, right? I certainly do, And so i started playing Minecraft (I have a strong nostalgic value with Minecraft.) And so i wanted to "Make a world that would perfectly summerize my past and things that i liked." And i went absolute crazy with it, it was fun as heck. (It is over 1-2 GB on MCPE, Minecraft Pocket Edition/Switch/Phone). I made pixel art of Mario, Pokemon, Sonic. I maybe even went a little bit over the edge with merging my map with maps that others has created. Like, a island with a theme. Like, Mario Island, Skyrim Island, etc.
But, I may have breached copyright/EULA Contract by using the Template Worlds that are found on the Marketplace with the IP and merged it with my world, but i credited whoever made the map/island inside my own world. And i wasn't really thinking about that i breached EULA in that particularly way, all i was thinking about was that, "It would be so frickin awesome to have multiple worlds connected to one world and travelling to each one without having to go to the main menu, and i could build new things on the said islands". Yeah. I thought it was the smartest idea. Why exiting the game and scrolling through just to access the world when i can just Merge everything together so it becomes easier accessible for me just by going in-game. And i wasn't even thinking about publishing the world either. I just wanted to have fun. I even went as far as to build my own Apartment 1:1 just because i thought it was fun. I even built my local groceries store so i could show people and amaze them by the silliness of going to a building that's based off IRL but is in minecraft, or that i could at 5 seconds, travel from a Mario-themed island to Halo-Themed island. And i often mentioned to people that i didn't create those islands

But then. Minecraft implemented or did a "Moderators are now better than before". And i watched a Youtube Video explaining what i can and can't do and what the consequences could be. And that got me legitimately scared. But people claim that Moderators are only for online multiplayer servers. But.. Whenever i start my singleplayer world and invite a friend through Xbox service. My world technically becomes multiplayer. And as for the possible consequences, if a Moderator decides that. "Yeah, you have breached Marketplace contract by merging worlds from marketplace with your own, you will now be permanently banned" then not only will i not be able to play online anymore, but due to the conduct and terms of use of minecraft being heavily tied to Xbox and Microsoft, if i get banned in minecraft, then according to Microsofts Terms of use and Conduct, my microsoft account would be suspended. Thus, Hotmail, Onedrive, everything else would be gone for me in the blink of an eye. And that is when i said "Alright, i'll never play Minecraft ever again, because trying to achieve dreams in the game that may be affiliated with others Ip is not allowed" So Minecraft essentially became a past thing that i would never bring up to people.

Alright. If i can't use Minecraft without being in the risk of losing everything, then i'll just use stuff in real life because that can't be "illegal to use due to copyright". Like, Beyblades, for example. The ideas of spinning tops is such a generic thing that i should not be in trouble. And i used to LOVE Beyblades as a kid and i always used to carry around a special beyblade wherever i went because it was so important to me. (It holds so many memories that it would take over 800 A4 pages full of text just to retell everything). And so i got happy again i thought. I bought Beyblades off Ebay, even went as far as to join Beyblade Subreddit and post amazing discoveries and my purchases of beyblades and see what everyone else thought of the beyblades i got. I felt like "It can't get better than this" But it did get a lot better because i then had the splendid idea of writing a document about this one special beyblade i have and tell all the adventures and fun i had in the past with it. And i wrote so far about 20 pages full of texts and of course images for various contexts. Like, what did a Beyblade Launcher look like? And why things didn't work or why things happened and i felt like i had to put images on my document to explain what was going on and why things happened.
(Makes sense right? Essentially, imagine describing a topic to someone who has never heard of that topic.)

I thought it was brilliant. And of course, in my mind i kept thinking "Even if i shouldn't be using images because it isn't mine, i can as easily describe the images with words" So it was like a Failsafe in case i would be starting to doubt myself. And then i later saw the potential of the document and started to think that i should maybe publish it. Commercial or non-commercial. It would be awesome to share my story of my life and past. (And i certainly was writing everything i could remember from my past with beyblades and how i overcome various difficult situations).

But, the exact same thought i had when i was into Pokemon came right back to me.
I don't own Beyblade. I am not Hasbro or Takara Tomy (Japanese toy manufacturer, etc), so i am not allowed to make ANYTHING out of it even though if it would be for personal use and even if it were not profitable. But then i thought "Alright, maybe it is time for Plan B. I should try to obtain permission!" So i searched up for the Creator of Metal Fight Beyblade. And i got a hold of his twitter and sent him a message asking if i could get permission to just make a document about my life and beyblades and perhaps just sharing it to friends. The answer i got was neither a Yes or No.... but more or less closer to a No. As the Manga Author of Metal Fight Beyblade apparently doesn't have permission himself to make anything regarding Beyblades, I must contact the Beyblade Corporation, WBBA, or Takara Tomy. And then i thought "Alright, i give up. There is no chance in hell that is gonna work out. I don't think corporations gives any answers to any individuals like me who are classified as a nobody"

And thus, i should cease all activity of writing and imagining, even cease all writing of my own real life. And soon everything started to crumble and spiral down into a pit of dispair. A majority of my life contains Copyrighted/Trademarked materials. And so.... Have i sold my soul to every corporation that i have laid my human-senses on? Am i not even allowed to make a dairybook? And you might be thinking "Try to contact a lawyer". Yeah. Show me where and how. I would really like to know. And especially in the time of Corona? Yeah. I don't think it will work. But it eventually got worse. As i was watching a video on youtube, i couldn't help but notice certain parts of various videos were blurred out. Particularly, someone was wearing white shoes and i was unsure what that kind of shoes was. But i soon saw in the comments about someone mentioning Nike. And that is where it hit me even more. "So.... i am technically not even allowed to wear branded clothing? So i need to pay a fee to wear clothing that i have already purchased? But how much would that fee be? Certainly i alone can't pay that, and even if i could, would Nike even answer my mail about permission at all? Very unlikely" And so i thought to change all clothes i had at home to empty shirts, empty pants. Like, there is not a single logo, branding, number, letter, nothing. Just plain old coloured shirt.

And so ok. If i can't use any of others IP to at least tell my past, then i'll sure as hell am gonna make my own thing then.

Because, during my time with this Special Beyblade i had, i wanted to make my own "Creature" of it. The thought process was that i wanted to make my own Monster that would appear out of the beyblade, like in the show. And so i designed a Dragon-Serpent with wings all on my own, all was my own original design. Though it wasn't immediately obvious to people that it was inspired by Beyblade so i had to keep mentioning the fact that in the show, there are monsters that come out of the beyblades whenever there are a battle going on. But i soon saw the importance of this creature i designed and i stopped associating my own creation with Beyblades. Alright! I finally got something that is mine and mine alone. I wanna make something that can replace that special beyblade i have so i no longer feel in the dangerous zone of copyright/trademark stuff.

And then i had the brilliant idea! A Custom Made Coin!! Yes! I could order a custom coin with my own design! Splendid! And the coin could be double sided, so like, there are engravings and art on both sides. One with my dragon-creature and the other side would be a slight reminiscence of the Beyblade that my dragon was based off. Because there is nothing in the law that says i can't use inspirations right? I mean, a Hexagon in the middle and some spikey things around it wouldn't imply that it is necessarily a Beyblade but rather that it would remind me about it.

And so with my knowledge of drawing and making art, i started to draw my own (Or making a technical mock-up of it) through GIMP. And i had the envision of how it would look like. Something in the similar fashion to one of those Military Challenge-Coins. And so i designed it with text, art and how i think it could look like. I did google up what Challenge Coins typically looked like so i had an idea of what it could be like. And i did like what most Challenge Coins are designed; A big circle with gold text around it and a engraved art in the middle.
Though my design may or may not be too comlpex, but i don't know how printing on coins work anyway, so i kept going along with it. I put some text, i learned through some tutorials on youtube on how to bend text around a circle. And yeah, i thought it was neat. But then i started to feel a little bit unease when i was making the back-side of the coin. I made a Big Hexagon in the middle with some spikes, but since the Hexagon thing was empty, i thought "I should maybe make a Insignia that would represent my Dragon?" And so i went on for hours upon hours, i didn't want it to be simple, yet i didn't want it to be super complex and not obvious that the insignia is refrencing my dragon, but also totally does. I went for hours and even days for making up different designs.

And then. I was amazed by the amazing discovery. I drew like a U... or like a upside-down omega sign Ω. And then i drew a upside-down triangle ▼ and i slowly moved the triangle towards the center of that Omega Sign and then i noticed... It Looked like a dragon! WOW! Whaaa?! This is so cool! Omg! I am so happy now! I worked on it a bit further with 2 horns on the side because my dragon had it. And i was very very proud of it..... Only for it all to be crushed by realisation and reality. I started to feel like i maybe had seen the symbol i just created somewhere... Oh right! It looks very similar to Skyrim. And i mean the Dragon-Symbol that appears on Words-Wall in the Skyrim Game. I even went to look for comparison side by side and....... Well.... Let's just say that my happiness was a false sense of security. I thought i had done something incredible that i could feel proud of, but only for it all to be taken away by reality and facts. And so i broke down mentally about it. But after a day or so, i started to experiment and try a different route with designing insignia.

So i made what someone pointed out, a Sigil that represented my dragon. And my friends even pointed out that it looked even better than the dragon-insignia i had previously made. So! alright! I'm back on track! Great! Now i should finish the rest of the coin design. I wanted to include various symbols of other things, like, things that i like. Video Gaming, Stars, Horoscope, Infinity. And it would all have a meaning to me. Like, a symbol of controller, it would be that i love gaming. Or that i think Stars are bright and nice. And my Horoscope is Leo. And Infinity for Infinite Possibilities.

But.... It was then i started to think deeply again... "Are these symbols copyrighted? Can i really use these symbols?" And so i googled up and got a Question-Answer on Quora "Is Fonts/Emojis copyrighted?" And..... Yes..... They are copyrighted...... And i went everywhere on google to search up if i could use the fonts that came with Windows for Commercial use (In my head, Commercial use = Printing it on a custom coin for personal use) So i wanted to make sure if i could use.... And.... at first sight i found that Microsoft lets user do whatever they want with the included fonts..... BUT.....then when i scrolled down, i found that the fonts can't be modified. But then wait a second. If i use an eraser in like GIMP to edit the letter, like changing colour for example or to make room for more things, doesn't that qualify as modification? There are neither questions or answers on the internet for that and i started to be doubtful...... Can't i really use Fonts at all? Am i not allowed to even write? What about all these fonts that can be purchased? Well. The prices aren't cheap. So.... That means. Microsoft has given me a false sense of security again. Ok, but what about Public Domain? That should leave me out of trouble completely, right? That's what Public Domain stand for, "Right to use without limit". But boy was i wrong. Public Domain has a lot of strings attached to it to a point where i am not even sure if it is free at all. And all questions i have about these things, i don't exactly have a lawyer as a neighbor. And i started to break down mentally again. And it went more downhill. Like. What's next? Am i no longer allowed to use my eyes any more to see any copyrighted material? Am i no longer allowed to even mention anything? What about the apartment i live in? The architecture is probably copyrighted on a floor plan or something. So am i no longer allowed to have a home? But what about my life? Am i not allowed to live any more as majority of my life is copyrighted? Is it prohibited for me to live? And...... That is where i think i can't handle it anymore. And i am sure people are gonna say "Well, that is how the world works". Alright, if that is how the world works, then i don't think i should be alive. And i probably should commit suicide. like i said, i live in a apartment, i live on the second floor of the apartment and i am sure that my head first to the ground from that height would either A.) Kill me, or B.) injure me serverly to a point of almost not return but still keeping me alive.

My interpretation about copyright and trademark has gone from a sensible standpoint of justice that makes sense to a dictator-like perspective. And since there is nothing that there can be done about it. I don't think i am fit to live in this world.

Your argument may be "This stuff only applies to commercial intentions, like, you can't use someone's else work to make money". I will remind you that people have had art taken down, videos taken down, fangames, fanfics taken down and they didn't make a SINGLE CENT. (And that is what i only have heard, heck, there could be thousands of things taken down but have gone unoticed) And you might say that "Most companies don't take things down because it wil hurt the fanbase or their reputation, or they only take it down if it gets popular". Well. Just like a tiger. It might appear as friendly and calm, but it can at ANY point bite you and you'd be finished, and it doesn't have to give a reason to why. And you might be using Fair Use as an aurgument. Well. Tell me this then. What exaclty constitues as Fair Use? Let me remind you. Parodies, Reviews, Criticism, Journalism, Educational purposes are within Fair Use. Anything outside that? Anything you make that have SLIGHT connection to someone's IP = Derivative work. And even if Fair Use would be in my favor for whatever reason. If i got a Cease and Desist, do you honestly think i would be able to do anything about it even if it is Fair use? No. Unless i myself have a corporation that makes millions so i can get lawyers, i am nothing. I am a nobody, i am a stepping ground for others. I am nothing but a souless corpse that will do anything for others in the eyes of corporations.

And maybe your argument is "Well, Why don't you just fucking read their license if you can use it". Trying to read license documents is like trying to read a completely different language.

And trying to contact anything to get permission at all is almost impossible by today standard. I, who am a nobody would not get a respond at all from a corporation or even an individual for that matter

And to clear things up. I am neither a youtuber or a streamer and i don't plan to become one either. But.... With all these crap that has happened to other people. I am sure as heck that i would be no exception to this. I would be treated exactly like all others. I have started to interpret that Copyright And Trademark is to silence freedom of imagination.

And as other things, you might even say "Well, be original, make your own unique things, why steal others stuff for your own benefit?".....First of all. I am never in the intention of stealing or using without permission for financial gain. But i want to make a fantasy story and share it with friends or maybe family, i want to make something. Facebook it or whatever. But, no i cant. And that also implies i should invest in EVERYTHING and make EVERYTHING on my own from ground up. I would have to start making my very own clothes, making my own video games from ground up. No, scratch that, i would have to make my very own computer from ground up and then make my own coding language from ground up. Like. And if that is not all. My whole life has been nothing but a fucking mess. Bullies. Failures. Mistakes. I can't live with it.
And if things couldn't get any worse. If we say i do make my own things. Who's there to stop anyone from taking what i have done and then using it against me as if they had made it? Because i am not well educated within copyright, i am basically fucked as hell. And trying to fully educate myself within copyright is easier said than done. For that i would need a high level degree of english grammar and reading. But since i don't have that. I am a fucked up fuck.
THIS WORLD IS JUST SO FUCKED UP THAT I HATE IT WITH EVERY SENSE OF MY FIBER AND WORD. I FUCKING HATE EVERY COMPANY THAT HAS EXISTED TO MANKIND. I JUST WANT TO BE FUCKING HAPPY. BUT BEING HAPPY HAS A FUCKING PRICE APPARENTLY. I AM LEGIT GETTING DONE WITH THIS GODFORSAKEN PLANET. I HATE MY FUCKING LIFE.

Minecraft Bi-Weekly Build Challenge #103: Windmill

LAST WEEK'S THEME: CABIN IN THE WOODS

**Apologies for the possibly incomplete/weirdly formatted post. I’m away this weekend and my laptop is not cooperating with me, so this is all being written on mobile. When I get home (today or tomorrow) I’ll fix everything, but wanted to post as much as I can to avoid any confusion.

Gold

Ghastlyemerald
Something a lot of the best builds often leave out is presentation. When building, you need to remember how people will view the build, and work from there. This build keeps all of this in mind by being built in the new basalt delta biome in the nether. The custom landscaping helps focus everything onto the cabin itself, which is remarkably colourful (considering the mixture of dark greens and browns surrounding it).
Great build!

Silver

SonGusiWhim
This build did a great job keeping colour in mind while building. The elegant house towers into the sky alongside the trees, creating an intimidating visual from the ground, sending a clear message to those approaching from the clearly established road. All while giving the inhabitant a lovely place to live, whether they're walking around their property or listening to music in their lounge. I can feel myself walking around this build, paying careful attention to the depth and colour.
Nice job!

Bronze

echoct
I love custom terrain. And this build uses the terrain around it to focus onto the cabin itself, which is also wonderfully built. The hills make the build small, since it's only contained in a small area, however there is no need to build a ton of other stuff to fill it up since everything you need is in that tiny space. It's a perfect secluded spot, away from civilization.
Good job!

Introduction

There's something about Minecraft that always makes me want to build windmills. For whatever reason, it always seems like the perfect addition to pretty much any village, no matter what the era is. Whether we build old rustic ones or new fancy ones that can be used to generate electricity (aka wind turbines), there's something about building them that I love.
So hopefully this week you guys can share in my love of them and build some awesome windmills!
Inspiration
I'll add this in later... suggestions are welcome in comments as you wait for me to post this..

Challenge

Windmill
Construct a windmill. It can be whatever type you choose (I can't think of many off the top of my head, but I'm sure that there's different types) or even a wind turbine. Scenery isn't required, but it is recommended to complete the build.

When you put it in a list the pro-consumer things Xbox have done for us is just incredible.

DISCLAIMER - NONE of the items on this list are to say Sony is not doing the same or meant to shame any competitor in any way. This is meerely the best list I could come up with of all the "pro-consumer" initiatives that Microsoft have done after the disaster launch of the Xbox One system.
DEVICES
  1. Xbox One S All Digital Edition - provided an all digital console to people who wanted an all digital library.
  2. Xbox Adaptive Controller to bring games to folks with disabilities.
  3. Xbox Elite Controller - Spent the time and resources to develop a premium controller for enthusiasts that wanted an official controller with the features of controllers like SCUFF.
  4. Kinect Adapter - Even though they very obviously abandoned ship on Kinect they developed and provided an adapter to folks buying the XOS system so they could continue to use their Kinect.
  5. External USB 3.0 HDD support - rather than selling consoles with larger hard drives they allowed consumers to use external HDD's to store their games one.
  6. Xbox One controllers will work on Xbox Series X for all games.
GAMES
  1. Backwards Compatibility of both Xbox 360 games as well as original Xbox games. They also offer this for free if you own the games. Not only are they bringing games into the future they are often times doing all the development work, even on 3rd party games, to get them to run better than they ever have.
  2. Full BC Support for all Xbox One games.
  3. Minecraft - To this day you can still play the full up to date version of Minecraft on every competing device and system even though they bought the property in September of 2014.
  4. Halo - Bringing one of the most prominent console IP's to PC after folks begging for it for years. Then continuing to add content to it.
  5. Minecraft Dungeons - Game is available on Switch, Xbox, PC via Windows Store.
  6. Cuphead - Microsoft asked studio behind Cuphead to bring the game to Nintendo Switch.
  7. Ori and the Blind Forest - Brought the game to both Steam and Nintendo Switch.
  8. All future games coming to both Xbox and PC.
  9. BC Games
  10. Have allowed all studios they've purchased to release their games on rival hardware.
SERVICES
  1. Smart Delivery - Creating a system that allows games to be purchased one time and removing any question for the consumer as to which version they need for their system.
  2. Xbox puts developers on notice that they are not to charge gamers for next-gen upgrades. But leaves the door open for dual entitlement schemes like EA prefer to go with.
  3. Xbox Game Pass - Not much to be said here besides the insane value of Game Pass.
  4. [RUMOR] Eliminating Xbox Live Gold making online play free moving forward.
  5. Cross Play - Microsoft have been one of a few entities strongly pushing for cross play between systems in and effort to bring gamers together. They've been open to cross play on any platform, including Playstation.
  6. Play Anywhere - You can now play most Xbox games on your console then jump to PC and play the same save file.
  7. Xcloud - They're now bundling the service at no additional cost into Game Pass which effectively puts the barrier to entry for their games at $15 if you want to play games on an Android device or on your PC (eventually).
  8. Digital Game Refunds - You can get a refund on any game you have played less then 2 hours and have owned less than 2 weeks.
TECHNOLOGIES
  1. Automatic Low Latency Mode - Few people realize it, but the Xbox One X and Xbox One X both have ALLM today. It is a feature that will be utilized much more in next generation, but they added it to the XOS, XOX in 2019.
  2. Variable Refresh Rate - the same case as with ALLM, they also added VRR. Something that very few monitors and even fewer TV's support, but they quietly added the feature for TV's that support freesync.

Please help: first ever pc build is going as expected during a pandemic

Hello reddit people (this is my first post ever, sorry in advance for all of it),
Here's my situation: I want to play overwatch, rainbow six siege, battlefront, CS:GO, apex, Minecraft and some other FPS multiplayer games, probs some GT5 here and there. I am terrible at all of them so refresh rate will not make a huge difference for me. I plan to play most story games on a PS5 (in ten years when I can finally get my hands on one) so I do not need a 4k pc gaming experience.
Here is what I'm struggling with:
CPU: Ryzen 2600 or 3600? Is there really a difference that's worth upgrading for? Especially between the 2600x and 3600? Just saw the 2600x on newegg or could get a 3600 at microcenter...
GPU: 580 or 5500/5600 or wait five years for other GPU's to be available again? Also, is XFX trash? Because XFX is pretty much all that's available right now at my bestbuy, but people seem to have had some troubles with it. In general Radeon GPU's seem to be a little hit and miss, but 2060's are extinct in my area and I'd like to not give money to Nvidia if I can help it because of the way they seem to be playing with the market...I'm definitely struggling most to find a GPU that I feel good about. 8GB is what I'm shooting for, but I am wondering if 6GB will be enough and maybe give me more options.
Mobo: looking at MSI or ASUS b450's. Not interested in the 550's or 570's because money. My main question about mobos is; does it really matter which one you get as long as it's compatible? ALSO: How much of a risk is open box at microcenter (like trying to invade Russia risky or trying to invade France risky-a little lol for any fellow history peeps :) )?
Here's what I have in mind for the rest of the build:
PSU: 650/500w gold (I've heard anything besides gold will pretty much be hurting your system, true?)
Ram: DDR4 2x8's whatever is cheap and fits, not too picky
Storage: SSD, also whatever is cheap and fits, not too picky
Monitor: AOC 24" 1080p/144hz
Before giving advance it's probably helpful to know that I will take the less expensive option 99.9% of the time and penny pinch till my last breath....I know PC gaming probably isn't the best for someone who hates spending money, but life just isn't as fun without video games.
So...any recommendations/advice? Heck, I'd even just take some words of encouragement because this has been frustrating with a crapshoot of a market. I live in Minnesota, USA and do have a microcenter nearby, but they have almost no GPU's in stock besides sapphire/redcooler 580's and $450+ 5700's, which I've heard is overpriced.
I mainly just wanna play overwatch and siege again :( COD killed my xbox and I haven't been able to play since.
ALSO: I have no idea what bios are...how intimidated should I be of a bios update? It seems to mess up a lot of people's systems and I cannot tell if it is a user error or the bios updates.
ALSO ALSO: Sorry if this is not the type of post for reddit or is not clear enough, please take down if so. Also (last one, I promise), very VERY sorry for being an obnoxious noob.
Kind Regards,
Darth

A Detailed Opinion on Why Xbox Series S is the Single Best Value in Gaming

TL;DR - CPU and GPU upgrades allow 1440p, or Raytracing or up to 120 frames per second giving budget gamers a worthy entry point for Next-Gen, without the costly TV/Monitor upgrade needed for 4K. The SSD and Velocity architecture allow casual gamers or gamers with limited time to spend a lot more time actually PLAYING their games instead of waiting on load screens. Game Pass Ultimate + EA access offer a MASSIVE amount of games for $15 a month, including games exclusive to Xbox. If you are in the market for a new console, I truly think Series S is the way to go for most people.

So, we all go to see the news drop yesterday that Xbox Series S is confirmed, and it is $300*.* Now, many people on this subreddit and a few articles have already echoed my title by saying "Xbox Series S is a great value!". But, I feel that these posts and articles are being too calm. I truly think that Xbox Series S is the single best budget value one will be able to get in gaming.
Why is that though? Well, before I explain that, I will say that this NOT a "Xbawks is better than GayStaytion 5!" post. Quite the opposite. In fact, I think the Series S is STILL a great option for people who plan on buying a PS5. But I will address that later. First, let me explain to the average Joe, little Timmy, or Karen who looks at this and says "its just a new Xbox, who cares?"
Great Question! What is this little, and I do mean little console doing that you should shell out $300 or $25 a month for it? Actually, quite a lot.

Alright, Alright, so my games load a bit quicker and I can have a few paused and ready to go. So what? For $300, this can't be a next gen console with graphics or complexity! It can't be that much better than my Xbone, One S, or One X! That is where you are WRONG kiddo!

Okay, okay! So this console is pretty beefy, and there really is no console on the market even CLOSE to this price-to-performance ratio. But so what? PS5 has all the good exclusives! And PC has way more games! Xbox doesn't even have Halo: Infinite at launch! Why buy this to just have to no new or exciting exclusives at launch? Checkmate!
Ah, yes, the exclusives. This is actually where I agree with most people. The Xbox brand has kind of fumbled its console launch by delaying a juggernaut title like Halo: Infinite, and having no other heavy hitters to back it up. Why buy a console if you only can buy $60 titles no one cares about? I have two words: GAME. PASS. Yep! The freaking STUPIDLY valuable subscription deal that Xbox has.

YXbox Game Pass Ultimate, XCloud, EA Access, and You:
Let's sum it up, shall we? Xbox Series S, for $300 (or $25 a month) has specs and technology that no one can match at that price point, as well as a subscription service in Game Pass that is uncontested as the best value in the world of video games currently for $15. I mean... that's it! Not trying to sound pretentious, but how someone could look at $315 for 1440p, Raytracing, Up to 120 fps (not all at the same time mind you), Next-Gen SSD's, and Access to Game Pass + EA Access and not buy the Series S as their console this fall, is beyond me. Let's do some comparisons or common arguments against buying a Series S, shall we?

  1. For $150 more, I can just buy the PS5 all digital edition (if the rumors are to be believed) and get a better next gen experience.
    1. Yes, you could! But, I would argue that the people who the Series S is aimed at, $150 is a lot of money. Yes, the PS5 is a stronger machine, but the Series S is not the powerhouse 4k console; the Xbox Series X is. The Series S is meant as a stepping stone console, for those who don't really care for 4K and or loads of money, but still want to be apart of next gen. Getting a PS5 for a 1080p TV and someone who plays only a few hours a week, which would be a significant portion of people, might be a bit overkill. A $315 Series S with Game Pass seems like a sweeter deal to that person, in my opinion. I think Sony will win more of the 4K enthusiast crowd, but not as much of the casual or poorer crowd. But I could definitely be wrong.
  2. Well, for $300, I could get a Switch instead. Seems to be more aimed towards the casual crowd!
    1. Now this, I actually agree with somewhat. I think the switch will be the bigger competition to the Series S, as they are both more budget and casual focused. I will say, and I hate to keep beating a dead horse, that Switch does not have Game Pass. Which is a big multiplicative bonus to the Series S! And the performance difference between the Switch and the Series S is massive. I mean, the Xbox is a next-gen console! The Switch is not.
    2. So you could argue that on a bang for buck level, Series S is a better deal. However, while Series S has XCloud for gaming on the go, Switch has the ability to just be played on the go, and is unaffected by things like, Apple blocking their service. To people with limited schedules, that is a big advantage to the Switch. But, Xbox Series S does have the benefit of being new, so it will have more attention than the Switch. Most people who would want a Switch, probably already have them. And those people who do already have them, could potentially afford a Series S and get the benefits of both.
  3. I am just going to buy the PS5 and the Series S, so I reap the rewards of both.
    1. And here is why Series S is a damn good deal. For those who prefer PS5, another $500 console for only 1 or 2 exclusives seems a bit steep. But, a $300 console around tax return season with game pass and is relatively comparable to your PS5? Well, now we are talking! I think this is where Xbox will take a silent victory, as they can potentially get more PS5 users into their ecosystem with an entry level console. They know a lot of PS5 players will not cross over to the Series X. But a few might just buy the Series S and become fans. It is a smart play, along with the people who will come in just due to it being the cheapest.
  4. I have a good gaming pc and Game Pass Ultimate. Why should I care?
    1. I think this a is a great question, and I think I can answer it with two words: Microsoft. Store. A lot of these games come from the Microsoft store, which is known for its bugginess and non-ease of use. So yes, while you may be technically able to play most exclusives for Xbox on PC, there will be some games that aren't, or that have less issues on their console counterparts. Which is where series S would be a good alternative for PC enthusiasts. I mean, for $300 you get a machine that can do what a lot of $600 PC's cant. But I can understand not wanting to buy a console if you already have a PC. Makes sense.
  5. The new consoles are WAY too big! I can't fit them anywhere!
    1. Another area where Series S is uncontested! It is actually 60% of the size of the Series X, making it very tiny and able to placed in most places where an old xbone could be fit.
  6. I already have a One X. It does fine, why should I get a Series S?
    1. I would read what I said about the SSD, Raytracing, and improvements in GPU/CPU performance. I would also say that selling your one x will almost pay for your Series S, which is a dramatic improvement over your current console, and certainly worth every penny, whether you game a lot or a little, it will improve your gaming experience.
  7. If the SSD expansion cards are $200, why wouldn't I just get the Series X or PS5 instead? Both come with more storage, especially with how big games are nowadays?
    1. Well, the SSD card price has not been confirmed yet, but we shall pretend it is. Firstly, you do not have to buy the external cards initially. 500gb of storage, while not a lot, can keep a few games on the hard drive, more than enough for you to have your top favorite titles on there (minus Modern Warfare... 200gb is too much). And once you fill up, you can buy the cards at a later date and have 1.5 gb, which is more storage than the base Xbox Series X. Though I do realize this is not an optimal solution. In this case, if you can afford it, I would buy the more premium consoles if you have the cash AND a 4K display. I would argue that for 1080p, Series S is by far the better deal, even with less storage.
    2. In the case of the PS5 instead, you have to realize that PS5 has 825 gb compared to the Series X's 1TB. While not a dramatic difference, if storage is that big of a deal to you, the Series X or an Expansion card might still be the better option than the PS5, speaking only about storage. If 4K and better performance is you schtick, then Series X and PS5 are tied on value on that side of things.

Anyway, those are all of my many thoughts. I do think that Series S is the best damn value of the gaming market, and I genuinely want to see it do well. If Microsoft can market this system and Game Pass, I do think that they will be very successful this generation. Either way, its gonna be a good one.
If I made any factual or logical errors, please let me know and I will adjust them.

What do you think?

Minecraft Bi-Weekly Build Challenge #101: War

LAST WEEK'S THEME: CLASH OF THE UPDATES

Gold

gpg9000
An absolutely stunning build depicting marine wildlife and the update aquatic. I loved how, although it was upscaled and you didn't use the actual mobs from update aquatic (as in you didn't spawn in fish), I could immediately tell you were trying to make those types of fish. Although they might be a little different, they were close enough that I knew exactly what you were trying to do. The landscape underwater was very well made and the hills in the background did well to fill in the rest of your build.
Stunning build, great job!

Silver

ExtremelyAsianCactus
I loved the simplicity of these builds. I feel we have all come to expect large, grand builds with buttons everywhere and trapdoors, etc. And don't get me wrong, those builds are amazing. But, there's something charming and beautiful about a build which does none of those things and manages to look just as good. I feel you picked a perfect block for it too. Concrete/Terracotta is, in my opinion, the easiest to make the flat buildings with, possibly because they're so colourful. Small complaint with the build though. I feel you could have added more colour in it. You had a couple bland buildings with sandstone and white terracotta. I feel another concrete building would have just drilled i nthe colour update a little more.
Awesome build though!

Bronze

Xypherians
Something about the first images threw me off, with the somewhat chaotic 1.4.2 update and the extremely large and (in my opinion) bare redstone update room. However, as soon as I hit the 1.6 update room and onward, I loved what you did. Any feedback I could have given you for those first rooms, it seems like you did them on the others. I love how the cart weaves in and out of the different features in each update. I also really liked the variation between rooms. None of them seemed like replicas of the others and had builds that reflected the update itself, which is what it should have been.
Great job!

Introduction

There were many wars on earth, with some taking place thousands of years before now, and others still ongoing. Although it's sad that so many people have lost their lives fighting sometimes pointless battles, it's best we never forget what happened, so we don't repeat it again.
This week, we will be building some builds based off of these wars. With no limitations of which you choose, there can be many different aesthetics people can choose. So whether you build a scene from one of the world wars, or go back further to the time of ancient Rome, that is up to you!
Let's get building!
